MODBetter Muffling introduces a Muffling Block designed to reduce sound levels within a nearby sphere-shaped area. Users can adjust sound levels for most Minecraft sound categories, excluding Master and Music. The block's effective range can be set between a minimum of 2 blocks and a default maximum of 16 blocks, with the latter configurable in the mod's configuration file. A private mode feature restricts adjustments and block breaking to the placer, though block breaking prevention is exclusive to versions 1.14 and newer. All settings, including sound levels, range, and private mode, are saved to the block upon breaking it and can be reset by placing the block in a crafting table.

The mod also includes an Advanced Muffle Block, which allows for muting or excluding specific sounds within a given sound category. A "listen button" feature assists in adding particular sounds to either a whitelist or blacklist for this advanced block. To upgrade a standard Muffling Block, players must Shift + Right-click it with an Advance Upgrade Item. This mod can be used in modpacks.
