Better Blood Overlay Mod 1.20.1

MOD

Better Blood Overlay simulates wounds based on damage received in-game. It generates unique wound textures at runtime based on hit position, creating individual wounds on the correct body part, side, and height. Wounds, blood drips, splatter, and scars are procedurally generated per hit. Fresh blood runs downward, dries to a brown crust, and washes off with water or rain, leaving a unique scar. Different damage types produce specific effects; weapons and arrows cut, fire and lava cause charred burns, and fists create bruises that age in color.

The mod extends wound simulation to mobs including zombies, piglins, villagers, and illagers, while skeletons do not bleed. Environmental gore features include blood pools forming on the ground, blood splatters on nearby walls from heavy hits, and weapons remaining bloody after kills. Players experience visual feedback through a red vignette that closes in with increased damage and screen splatters from heavy hits. A first-launch setup screen allows users to select presets like Realistic or Minimal, or create custom configurations, which can be shared as codes or enforced server-wide. This mod is compatible with both client and server installations; no other mods are required.
