MODAStages is a progression framework designed for Minecraft modpack creators and server administrators. Its primary function is to divide gameplay into distinct "Stages," allowing control over player access to various game elements. When a player's stage container is empty, anything tied to a locked stage is inaccessible. Access to associated blocks, items, or permissions unlocks instantly when a stage is added. Stages can be managed for players even when they are offline, and the mod provides options for player-scope (individual progression), server-scope (global unlocks), permanent, and temporary (countdown-based) stages.

The mod introduces "Restrictions" that link to stages, enabling a single unlock to open multiple aspects of a modpack. These restrictions can be configured via in-game commands or KubeJS scripts for detailed customization. Specific restrictions include freezing crop growth, blocking or modifying dimension access, toggling status effects, controlling enchantment appearance and usage, locking item crafting and usage, intercepting loot tables, preventing mob spawns, hiding or modifying ore blocks, toggling pet mechanics, blocking recipes across various stations, defining interaction and explosion regions, locking GUIs, and building collision boundaries around structures. AStages runs on Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1.
